Call for U.S. Ski, Snowboard, and Nordic Athletes to Join Team USA in Innsbruck, Austria

The U.S. Deaf Ski and Snowboard Association (USDSSA) is excited to announce that the 2027
Winter Deaflympics will take place January 15–24, 2027, in the iconic alpine city of
Innsbruck, Austria. Organized by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf (ICSD),
the Games will bring together elite Deaf and hard of hearing athletes from around the world
to compete in a full slate of winter sports.
Events at the 2027 Winter Deaflympics
The Games will include:
• Alpine Skiing
• Nordic Skiing (Cross-Country)
• Snowboarding
• Ice Hockey
• Curling
• Futsal
• Chess
USDSSA is calling on Deaf and hard of hearing athletes across the country to join the U.S.
Alpine, Snowboard, and Nordic Teams for the upcoming Deaflympics. This is a rare and
meaningful opportunity to represent the United States on the international stage.
Individual Ski, Snowboard and Nordic Events
Alpine Skiing:
• Slalom
• Giant Slalom
• Super-G
• Downhill
• Alpine Combined
Snowboarding:
• Parallel Slalom
• Parallel Giant Slalom
• Boardercross
• Big Air
• Slopestyle
Nordic Skiing (Cross-Country):
Event list forthcoming from the ICSD; more details will be shared as soon as they are
confirmed.
Tryouts and Athlete Preparation
Team tryouts will be conducted virtually, with specific dates to be announced on the
USDSSA website and social media platforms.
To prepare for team selection:
Alpine skiers, snowboarders, and Nordic skiers are strongly encouraged to compete in local
mountain races and events throughout the 2024–2026 seasons. Participation in these
competitions will help build essential racing experience and strengthen athlete readiness
for the international level.

athletic performance, foster global camaraderie, and celebrate excellence within the Deaf
community.
