For this month’s Member Spotlight, we’re excited to introduce Kole Krier, a passionate snowboarder from Minnesota who joined us for his very first USDSSA Winterfest last year at Breckenridge.
Kole initially reached out to Lisa Tempesta to learn more about USDSSA and how to connect with other riders. Despite not knowing anyone — and not yet knowing sign language — he took a leap of faith, booked an Airbnb with total strangers (who quickly became friends), and embraced the Breckenridge experience with an open heart. Over the course of the weekend, he explored the peaks with fellow USDSSA riders and picked up a lot of sign language along the way.
What stands out about Kole is not only his enthusiasm for snowboarding, but also his willingness to jump into a new community with courage and positivity. He brings terrific energy to the terrain park, where he enjoys creating “good vibes” and helping riders progress safely. He also holds a U.S. Ski & Snowboard coaching certification, which shows his commitment to both skill development and rider safety.

Kole is currently preparing to compete in all freestyle disciplines at the 2027 Winter Deaflympics — slopestyle, and halfpipe — and hopes to add boardercross and possibly GS/SL if the schedule allows. He’s also working hard on his ASL skills using the ASL Bloom app and other online resources, ensuring he can communicate and support others effectively.
We’re thrilled to welcome Kole more deeply into the USDSSA community and grateful for his eagerness to volunteer at this year’s Winterfest at Okemo. His story is a reminder of what makes USDSSA special: community, courage, and the joy of riding together.
